16th Century Leaf from Medieval Gregorian Chant Liturgical Sheet Music On Vellum.
This early leaf of liturgical sheet music is handwritten in Gothic Blackletter on vellum. It is notated as six staves on each page (front and back). The chant is in square notation (neumes) on four-line staves. The Latin text fragment is a portion of the Nicene Creed. The leaf is likely Spanish or Italian in origin.
The music sheets of the Medieval were written in giant size for whole choirs or large sections of singers to read at once.
Beautifully preserved. Framed with glass on both sides to admire the complete book leaf.
