Italian carved marble oval relief Cameo portrait, 17th century. From the workshop of Gian Lorenzo Bernini (1598 - 1680) Rome. This is a masterpiece. The portrait of a bearded man is carved in high relief in white carrara marble. It is created in the early pure baroque style by a most accomplished portrait sculptor. A later, finely carved Walnut frame complements the marble. The perfected, highly dramatic cameo portrait is an artistic tour de force.
