17th Century English Carved Oak Corbel “The Green Man”.
 
Rare antique decorative architectural ornament of the enigmatic Green Man. Images and carvings can be found on ancient memorials, temples and cathedrals. Carving of the Green Man takes many forms. The most common depicts a man’s face peering out of dense foliage. It is known to have evolved from ancient cultures throughout history. This carving is masterfully done and has a rich deep dark patina. 
 
Condition is good with age related wear. It is mounted on an iron museum stand.
