17th Century Flemish Tronie Portrait Oil on Canvas. Monogrammed
The painting demonstrates the Flemish style executed in 16th/17th century portraiture. This bust-length portrait depicts a bearded gentleman in a white collar. It is considered to be a Tronie, a character study rather than a portrait of specific individuals. Tronies were highly regarded by collectors. The painting is signed with a monogram in the lower left bottom corner. It is housed in a period gilded frame. It is in good condition. The upper stretcher bar is missing. The varnish is slightly uneven in gloss. A fine craquelure pattern can be seen. No conservation treatment has been undertaken since its acquisition.
