17th Century Spanish Old Master Painting. The Birth of the Virgin.
 
Important Old Master painting, oil on canvas, presents the scene of the Virgin:
Mary’s birth by her mother Anne. A midwife in the foreground pours water from a pewter jug into a basin, preparing the baby’s bath.
The painting, on an oval stretcher with giltwood frame, has a cipher on the top which includes the letters, M-A-R-Y. Underneath the frame is Illegible handwriting in Spanish.
It is a masterpiece, full of characters, details and colors.
