1880s Imperial Russian Faberge Romanov burl wood presentation cigarette case box coat of arms crest. These cigarette cases were made in a limited number by the workshop of Peter Carl Faberge in St. Petersburg and given as a presentation gifts to high ranking officials. Two pieces of Karelian birch wood are hollowed out and fitted with a dovetail joint for the delicate hinge. This is a functional box with impeccable design. It is clearly made by a master wood worker in superb craftsmanship. The natural burling in the wood makes this small box particularly unique. The lid is inlaid with different veneers showing the Russian Romanov Imperial Coat of Arms. St. George centers the double headed eagle who holds a scepter and orb in it’s claws. The Tsarist crown tops the Romanov Crest. It is truly imperial provenance.
