18th Century German Old Master Painting “Diana and Endymion“ Signed
This exceptional and beautiful allegorical painting is executed in oil on canvas. The canvas is painted in a masterly manner by the German artist, Jacob Samuel Beck (1715 - 1778). The story is linked to Diana, Goddess of hunting, and her impossible love for the young mortal shepherd, Endymion. The composition is particularly successful with the figures standing in the setting of light and shadows. Jacob Samuel Beck was a painter in Erfurt, Germany. He was Court painter of the Weimar Dukes.
The condition is good. The painting is signed J.S.Beck in the lower left.The canvas is relined. The painting is housed in a contemporary frame.
