18th Century Hand Colored Engraving by Johannes Kip, Set of 2.
Two plates of the most important topographical publications of the 18th Century. The engravings are historical records of English Estates around 1700. The name of the landlord is emblazoned across each plate with a decorative banner and accompanied by the coat of arms. They were created by Johannes Kip (1653-1722) after Leonard Knyff (1650-1721) for the Britannia Illustrata. The hand coloring is spectacular. This is one of the most comprehensive and decorative topographical studies attempted in the 18th century. Condition is very good. The etchings are luxuriously matted and framed in matching carved black frames with gilded rope twist decoration. Not examined out of the frame.
