18th Century Italian Old Master, Large Emilian School Painting - Weeping Madonna -
 
A half length portrait in oil on canvas of the weeping Madonna. This painting is by an unidentified hand, however the sophisticated composition, including the luminous face of the Virgin indicates that it was painted by an important artist working in the orbit of Carlo Dolci. The present work is among a number of versions of this composition that vary in detail.  This painting is housed in an elaborate gilded frame with twisted rope and bead decoration.
 
The canvas is relined but shows some bubbles in the background. The overall condition is good.
