This exceptional large faience tankard is painted polychrome with the royal eagle and crest of Frederick the Great of Prussia. The initial FR stands for Fridericus Rex. The background of this tankard is decorated in a rare sponged manganese color. It has an aesthetic effect next to the cobalt blue eagle. The cylindrical corpus supports a hallmarked pewter lid with thumb knob. The initials “HL” are painted on the unglazed bottom.
This impressive piece from the second half of the 18th century is in very good condition. The rarity of the dedication, size and decoration have to be emphasized. A few small chips and fleabites on the rim.
