Contemporary 18th Century Style Large German Faience Tankard, 3 Liter Walzenkrug
This large faience tankard is painted polychrome with the royal eagle and crest of Frederick the Great of Prussia. The initial FR stands for Fridericus Rex. The background of this tankard is decorated in a rare sponged manganese color. It has an aesthetic effect next to the cobalt blue eagle. The cylindrical corpus supports a hallmarked pewter lid with thumb knob. The initials “HL” are painted on the unglazed bottom.
This impressive piece of contemporary origins is created in the 18th century style and in very good condition. The rarity of size and decoration have to be emphasized. A few small chips and fleabites on the rim.
