This is an exquisite, hand carved 18th century Louis XV period giltwood barometer and Reaumur thermometer with hand painted face and glass front. In the 19th century it was polychrome painted over the original gilding. The carving, with garlands and flowers and topped with an eagle, is masterfully executed. The beautifully decorative barometer is not in working condition, but it represents a piece of France’s rich history under King Louis XV.


Condition: Later polychrome painted over gilding. Painted face touched up. Not in working condition. Inner mechanism covered and sealed.
