This is a romanticized naive American Folk Art painting of a beautiful landscape. It’s depicting a serene mountainous river valley with a strong elk in the foreground sizing up the territory. Although the composition of this painting is very artistic, it keeps the integrity of a truly Primitive Folk Art painting. It is just one step short of being fine art. Impressive in size, this painting is executed by an anonymous artist in the late 19th century. It is unsigned and unframed. The canvas is stretched on bars with metal corner brackets U.S.Patent 1883.
