19th Century Ecclesiastical Hand Painted Double Sided Processional Banner

This is the center painting, executed in gouache, of a 19th century Continental processional banner. The double sided hand painted icon pictures on one side Saint Francis Xavier, a missionary in Asia, baptizing a Paravas pearl fisher. The other side shows Saint Peter holding the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Next to him stands Saint Paul, displaying a sword, the instrument of his martyrdom and holding a Gospel book. Together, they represent the whole Gospel of Christ. The quality of the painting is very good as well as the condition. The textile of the complete banner is missing, probably of age deterioration issues. The double-sided painting is glazed on both sides, front and back. It is housed in a 19th century carved silver leafed frame.
