19th Century English Chinoiserie Toleware Grocer's Tea Canister.
A fine and well-proportioned grand-scale English grocer's toleware tea canister, dating to the mid-19th century.  Designed for commercial display and preservation. The canister retains its original matching domed pull-off cap and deep neck collar.  The vessel features a hand-applied red ochre ground ornamented with classic gilded and black japanned accents. A hand-painted central rectangular vignette in the Chinoiserie taste, depicts two figures in an idealized landscape. The piece exhibits classic bench-made construction of the period, including a visible hand-rolled vertical seam along the reverse shoulder and a rolled, soldered base rim.

Condition:
Very good antique condition, no touch ups, honest patina and retains vibrant coloration. The lid fits securely to the collar. Modern protective felt pads have been applied to the underside of the base to preserve furniture surfaces.
