19th Century English Queen Anne Style Chinoiserie Scarlett Lacquer Side Chair.
 
Late 19th century red japanned side chair in the manner of Giles Grendey (English, 1693-1780). The chair, in the Queen Anne taste, has exuberant chinoiserie decoration. It is exotically coloured in Chinese red with gold accents. The cabriole legs are joined by an H-shaped stretcher. The central splat bears the image of two oriental figures in a surrounding Chinese landscape. Chinoiserie furniture used to be one of the predominant decorative trends of the English 18th Century. This chair is the closest example to the original models.
