An exceptionally high quality early 19th century French Louis XV style bronze ormolu mounted inkwell. The circular well with the original porcelain insert has a hinged lid. The elegant encrier is richly and masterful chased with ornate scrolled foliate decorations. France is known for the best fire gilding on bronze and the gilt on this inkwell is original throughout.
