This is a pair of Venetian giltwood mirrors. The rectangular mirror plates are within a boldly carved scrolling acanthus frame with a carved leaf crown piece. The elaborately carved frame has the original water gilding. Venetian style refers to the art and architecture coming out of Venice, Italy during the Baroque period. It is characterized by the heavy use of gold gilding on wood and very elaborate hand carved decorations.
