19thC Victorian Renaissance Revival Carved Walnut Armorial Slipper Chair

An exceptional example of 19th century American craftsmanship. This high-back parlor slipper chair features a hand-carved, openwork walnut splat featuring a detailed armorial shield flanked by twin rampant heraldic lions framed by scrolling acanthus leaves and classical architectural turnings.

The "slipper chair” features a lower seat height designed for 19th-century dressing rooms and parlors. The front legs are ringed baluster turnings resting on their original brass collar casters, contrasted by swept, raked rear legs for stable structural support. Upholstered in a striped floral jacquard fabric.
