American Landscape Painting in the Manner of Albert York (1928-2009) Signed

Charming landscape painting in gouache on paper. It bears a signature in the lower left “York”. This piece is an original painting, hand signed and in the manner of the Long Island N.Y. artist Albert York, a reclusive painter of small mysterious landscapes. A critique called him, “the most

highly admired unknown artist in America”. His highly valued paintings are mostly in private collections and museums. A rare auction of his work took place at Sotheby’s after the death of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, who owned six of his paintings. He studied with Raphael Soyer and later partnered with Robert Kulicke, an artist and frame maker. The writer Edward Gorey once said he would buy anything of York’s sight unseen, if anything were available. We believe that this work is done in the manner of the named artist and is sold as such  The painting is matted under museum glass and framed in a gilded moulding.

Condition is very good.
