American Painted Sea Chest with Beckets.
 
Early 20th century green painted pine trunk with a single board top and original sailor made painted ropework beckets. The lid features a painting of a large American clipper sailing ship near the Maine coast with the Portland Head Lighthouse. The picture is signed on the lower right, “Anderson” and is surrounded by a painted rope. It is an example of maritime art as an important historical resource. Good antique condition with some minor paint loss. The exterior surface of the chest has experienced some wear and scuffs as expected with usage.
