Antique Navajo Weaving Double Saddle Blanket, Circa 1920.
This beautiful tightly woven hand loomed woolen Navajo rug is a great early example of Native American textile. It is designed with arrow and horizontal stripe pattern in red, blue, green, orange and black. These Native American saddle blankets were made to hold up to heavy use on a horse with saddle. This rug sustained some damage from use of stirrups and spurs (one small interruption in the green pattern and another heavily frayed spot (see photos). The rug dates to about 1920 and maintains historical interest, timeless beauty and skill never to be seen again.
Some slight color bleeding. Some fraying at far ends.
