Antique Set of 6 Original Painted Pennsylvania Plank Bottom Chairs
Rare set of six antique chairs (circa 1850) with Pennsylvania Amish origin. These are Americana at its best. They were probably built by the Lancaster County chair maker, George Nees. The chairs, with their original paint, are in good antique condition. Each features “table top” crest rails and a solid back splat with a sculpted plank bottom seat. The decoration has various painted flower designs, including pinstriping over a reddish -brown ground. Four stretchers brace the tapered legs. A similar set can be found at the Mercer Museum, Doylestown, Pennsylvania.
