Art Deco Walnut Asprey "Elevette" Patent Mechanical Drinks Cabinet, circa 1930s.
An exceptional and highly sought-after British Art Deco "Elevette" mechanical pop-up drinks cabinet, meticulously crafted in England during the golden age of cocktail design, circa 1930s.
This ingenious novelty bar cabinet features an exquisite waterfall silhouette wrapped in premium book-matched burr walnut veneers, displaying a magnificent symmetrical mirrored grain pattern across all main elevations.
The piece utilizes a clever internal spring-assisted balancing mechanism. Pulling upward on the geometric, octagonal chrome top handle activates the system, causing the central inner bottle caddy to gracefully rise into view. Concurrently, the two domed side wings split and hinge outwards seamlessly to reveal the inlaid Asprey “Elevette” ivory label and create two level, flat side platforms perfect for mixing and pouring drinks. Depressing a front-facing safety pin releases the catch, allowing the inner compartment to descend securely back down into its unassuming form (See video).
The inner caddy features two primary tiers. The left and right profiles house hidden side cupboards, revealing a two-tier interior. Fitted entirely on its original heavy-duty 360-degree brass swivel casters with hardened composite treads, this versatile piece maneuvers effortlessly.
Condition is good. This exceptional cabinet has been well preserved. The book-matched burr walnut veneer retains its brilliant high-contrast grain definition. The mechanical "Elevette" hoist operates perfectly with fluid motion, locking securely into place. The chrome handle shows wear.
