Arts and Crafts style hand hammered wrought iron folding curule seat.
Extraordinarily rare hand wrought iron and stitched leather Curule seat, handcrafted by Morgan Colt and his artistic staff. This seat, built in traditional techniques, is a shining example, created by one of the great metal artists of America. His work is associated with the Arts and Crafts movement in America of the late 19th and early 20th century. In 1912, Morgan Colt (1876-1926) founded the New Hope Art Colony, including the Gothic Workshops, Forge and Studio. He specialized in hand wrought iron furniture and objects of art in various media. His work is of outstanding beauty in design and craftsmanship. This Curule seat is one of only a few made. Colt’s furniture, chairs and chests are in museums and private collections.
