Chinese ancestor portrait of a Mandarin Dignitary.

Antique tempera on paper painting of a Mandarin Dignitary wearing a red court dress and seated on a throne chair. Based on the style of his formal robe, this man was probably an official of the highest rank. Ancestor portraits have a long history in China. This painting, by an unknown artist, dates from circa 1850 and is of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) - the last Imperial Dynasty. This very fine painting is matted with papyrus and silk and framed under glass in a faux bamboo black wood frame.

Condition is good, although there is some slight foxing.
