French Fauve Landscape Oil Painting Signed, A. Derain, 1880- 1954
 
Although Derain painted with his contemporaries, like Matisse and de Vlaminck, he was essentially a traditionalist. This painting of birch trees in a landscape exhibits the color scale typical of his art. The composition and brush strokes make this artwork a feast for the eyes.
We cannot provide an authentication for this painting, although our experience causes us to believe this work is by the hand of Andre Derain. This oil painting on canvas is laid down on board. It is housed in a period Impressionist carved and gilded frame.
 
Condition: Good. Wear consistent with age.
