This is a large cinnabar vase of opulent proportions. It is carved in relief with floral decoration on a lattice-work background over a brass baluster form body. There are different motifs in the elaborately carved surface, including full figural scenes, landscapes, floral and decorations on geometric patterns. The art of carving lacquer is unique to China. It is unusual to have a vase in this impressive large size.
Condition is good. Wear commensurate with age and use. Some chips to the lacquer on the base.
