Mid-20th Century Giltwood Reeded Frame in the Style of Stanford White
An exceptional mid-20th-century artist-grade gallery frame, masterfully handcrafted in the style of legendary architect and frame designer Stanford White. This piece features a classic multi-tiered, linearly reeded and fluted moulding, beautifully complemented by subtle twist-rope detailing along the inner and outer perimeters.
The reverse features a machine-planed, solid wood profile with authentic workshop inventory and style numbers handwritten in pencil (#4565, 40644), tracking its custom workshop provenance. Exhibiting a beautifully aged patina, fine organic craquelure, and minor historic flaking along the outer gesso edge, this substantial frame offers a commanding, museum-quality presentation for any fine oil painting or vintage print.
Condition: Very Good. Minor historic chipping and flaking to the gesso on the outer edge, exposing the chalk substrate underneath. Light, beautiful structural separation at the miter joints consistent with the natural aging of wood. Fully stable.
