Mid Century brutalist abstract welded iron and mosaic tile figure of the mythical Greek God Zeus.
Zeus hardly requires any introduction. He is one of the most popular figures in Greek mythology. At one time he was bound with the hundred-knotted cord but soon after he was freed.
This figure shows him with the untied rope. (Zeus - Wikipedia) The sculpture is made in a typical style of abstract welded art of the 1950s. It is considered a piece by the “old masters” of abstract welded figural sculptures ie.David Smith, Harry Bertoia, etc.
Beautiful tile work adds a dramatic effect to this piece of art. The body is adorned with Micro mosaic. There is a monogram on one corner of the base.(photo) The sculpture has a rusty patina and mounted on a marble plinth. It is in very good condition.
