Mid-Century Modern Norbert Smith Impasto Architectural Landscape Cityscape Painting.
This striking, large-scale mid-century modern oil painting is an exceptional work by Chicago artist, Norbert B. Smith (b. 1923). The piece showcases an architectural urban park and canal scene, executed in a remarkably heavy, tactile impasto style typical of expressive mid-century studio art.
The circa 1950s/1960s cityscape features an historic domed skyline heavily evoking mid-twentieth-century Chicago. 
The painting panel is displayed in its original 3D float-mount shadowbox presentation. The framing features a bold black outer profile paired with a rustic, distressed silver face.  The work is signed "Norbert Smith" in his distinct, script in white pigment in the bottom right corner.
Very good vintage condition. The heavy impasto layers remain stable and bright. Age-appropriate wear to the original wooden shadowbox frame.
