New Mexico Retablo of “Nuestra Senora de los Dolores“
 
This beautiful Folk Art retablo of “Nuestra Senora de los Dolores“ is a religious painting of the Virgin Mary in a state of mourning. This retablo is meant for private devotion. The Virgin Mary in this painting is depicted with her eyes downcast and hands in prayer. This retablo is painted by an anonymous self-trained Santero on a wood panel with natural pigment in a charming naive
expression. 
The panel is inscribed in verso with the title and the collectors name. Collection of Andrew T. Johnston. Collected in the late 19th to early 20th century.                 
The retablo is in overall good condition.
