Original Bavarian Tyrolian Folk Art Painting, Signed and Dated

This charming folk painting is executed in oil on artist board. A beautiful and rustic Tyrol or Bavarian landscape is marked by the use of atmospheric perspective, a twisting stream guides the eye out to lighter shades of the horizon. In the foreground is a figure in traditional lederhosen costume holding a shepherd’s crook and blowing a horn. Many sheep are gathered nearby grazing in the grassy rolling hills. A sheep dog stares into the distance. Paint application is simple and straightforward brushstrokes in strong and rich colors. This original painting represents the essence of the Tyrolian ideal. The naïve style and the inclusion of so many points of interest make this work an exceptional piece of folk art. This painting is signed and dated 1947.
