Pair 19th C. Spanish Paintings, Still Life with Melon After Spadino.
This pair of magnificent canvases depicts an exhibition of fruit with split melons, blossoms, peaches and pears. The melons are placed in the foreground, very close to the observer's point of view. The fruit, with it’s bright colors, occupies most of the visual space. The unknown, late 19th century skillful painter brilliantly created all of the elements of the Spanish artist, Giovanni Paolo Castelli called Spadino (1659-1730). The quality of this pair of paintings is excellent and the style appears surprisingly free and evocative.
