Pair Chinoiserie Porcelain Celadon Green Ceramic Temple Jar Table Lamps.
These very important oversized classic temple jar lamps were made of porcelain in China during the 20th century. The impressive celadon green baluster shaped ceramic bodies, with fine overall craquelure, are beautifully embellished on shoulder and foot with incised brass overlay ornaments and finished with a brass cap. The old technique of overlay involves the use of a thin brass sheet wrapped around the ceramic body. It was then engraved with a fine design, which was a time consuming and tedious process, which could only be accomplished by skilled artisans. The lamps are raised on a carved hardwood base. Each one has a single light socket. They come with matching shades. Light signs of wear. The heavy finials are made from solid brass. The pair of lamps are in very good condition.
