Pair Grand Tour British Regency Stipple Engravings, After William Lodder, Edward Orme, Pub.
An exceptional and highly charming pair of genuine early 19th-century British Regency stipple engravings. This rare pendant set includes the titled works "Infancy" and "Protection," executed with masterful stipple and line-etching techniques. Both plates were engraved from original drawings by the celebrated English genre painter William P. J. Lodder and published in London by Edward Orme. The formal dedication to the Honourable Frederick West (1767–1852), a prominent British political figure and landowner, firmly dates the production of this suite to circa 1800–1805. The engravings are housed in their matched, period-appropriate 19th-century wood frames with an authentic gilt-washed finish.
Good antique condition, consistent with over 220 years of age. Areas of light scattered foxing and a visible water tideline stain along the lower left margin of "Infancy." Frames retain minor flecking.
