These two figures, male and female, are made for the British market. They wear traditional Chinese robes with elaborate original polychrome decoration. Both heads nod in different directions. The vast majority of nodding head figures was imported into England from Canton from the late 18th century into the early 19th century.

Surprisingly, the figures, despite their age and delicate material, are in excellent condition. They are built on a wood base.
