Pair of Paris Two Handled Vases in Gold and Cobalt Blue.

Pair of early 19th century Paris baluster shaped porcelain vases. Elaborately painted on each side with the most intricate polychrome and gilded decorations. The exceptional execution of the paintings make them museum quality. The richly decorated gold and cobalt blue ovoid body of the vases has two upright loop handles with bisque portrait medallions. Both vases commemorate Napoleon Bonaparte with the classicized images of Napoleonic monuments.

The obverse cartouches picture:

  • The Pantheon. Temple, dedicated by Napoleon Bonaparte as the final resting place

for distinguished French military.

  • Place Vendome, Napoleon’s Victory Column.

The reverse cartouches feature pastoral landscapes of pleasing and peaceful

country life.

The Napoleonic theme sets them apart and makes them very rare.

Condition is good. Minor gold loses. One handle is repaired. Both bases are restored.

Wear commensurate with age and use.
