Pair of Period French Louis XV Carved Bergeres Cabriolet, Paris, Circa 1760.

The regal bergere cabriolet is referred to as the chair of Kings. This pair is finely hand carved in walnut with flowers and intricate mouldings.  The bergeres have an arched, padded back and loose cushioned seats.  They rest on elegant cabriolet legs.  The underside is stamped, “TILLARD”.  Jean-Baptiste Tillard (circa 1760) was the furniture maker to the king.   Tillard, like Foliot and Gourdin, is among the most famous carpenters of the 18th century.  Tillard’s seats are preserved at the Louvre Museum and the Metropolitan Museum in New York.
