Pate-Sur-Pate Porcelain Table Lamp with Bronze Mount.
The art of porcelain relief decoration is masterfully demonstrated in this important and beautiful table lamp. The cameo-like effect was achieved by applying successive layers of white thin slip on the black body. It is finely painted and delicately hand carved. The front and the back of the lamp depict Greek mythological scenes with maidens and gods. Flower garland patterned
bands decorate the shoulder and base. All the sculptures and reliefs are magnificently executed. The pate-sur-pate porcelain body is set in a very fine and elaborate bronze mounting. The lamp is probably made around 1900 by the Minton Manufactory in Staffordshire.Condition of the porcelain is excellent. Bronze mount wear commensurate with age. Bronze handles need light tightening.
