Post Impressionist Painting Reclining Nude by Adolf Hoelzel (1854-1934)

Early 20th century Post Impressionist figural reclining female nude painting in oil on canvas. The model is pictured in a relaxed, lying position. Bold, confident brushstrokes and simplified style showcase an accomplished artist. This is a great example of Adolf Hoelzel’s Post Impressionist works. Hoelzel, born in Germany, studied art in Vienna. From there he moved to Munich to teach art. One of his students was the future German Expressionist, Emil Nolde.  While earlier he painted in an Impressionist style, his work began moving toward abstraction. The painting is stamped verso on the stretcher. The condition is good, although there are some repair patches on the back. The painting is unframed.
