Vernis Martin French Antique Commode Chest Marble Top.
 
Charming early 20th century French Louis XV style kingwood side cabinet in the Vernis Martin manner with a rouge variegated marble top and gilded bronze decorations. It features three romantic paintings. A large panel in the middle, flanked by two small ones on each side. The chest has a single door and on the inside is a single shelf, dividing the interior in two storage sections. It is raised on four carved cabriole legs, embellished with bronze mounts.  The Martin brothers of Paris became associated with the varnishing technique Vernis Martin. Guillaume and Etienne Simon Martin created beautifully varnished pieces to which they would lend their name.
Condition is good, commensurate with age and use. No key.
