Victorian Period Cut Glass Basketweave Decanter.

This early, glowing cut glass decanter with original stopper, from the turn of the century, features the brilliant “Basket Weave” pattern of T.J. Hawkes & Co. Above the basketweave stepped detailing rises up the neck. The piece is cut with a sunburst design both on the bottom and at the top of the rimmed stopper.  Tremendous detail has gone into the creation of this beautiful and rare cut glass vessel.  The sharp basketweave cuts catch and reflect the light in all directions. The Hawkes company is long retired but was held to a high standard of fine quality by glass craftspersons that mark the 19th Century.

Original stopper. Remarkably, this carafe has remained in very good condition.  One flea bite in the stopper rim.  The body is without flaw. Wear due to age and use.
