Vintage Bavarian Wood Carving of the Infant Bacchus

Oberammergau is a world-famous wood carver town in Bavaria, Germany. Nikolaus Lang, a known artist, created a small sculpture of a young Bacchus. The carving is masterfully done with perfect anatomical proportions. Bacchus, as a child with a chubby body, is reminiscent of putti of the Italian Renaissance. The figure is presented as joyfully dancing with beautiful movement and incredible expression. The highly detailed carving has a rich, deep color and patina. The statuette is signed, “Nikolaus Lang Oberammergau 1910”.

Condition is good. Two fingers are missing.
