An exceptional and highly collectible example of California Coastal Organic Modernism, this iconic "Sheaf of Wheat" pedestal table was designed by John and Elinor McGuire for the renowned McGuire Furniture Company of San Francisco. The sculptural, elliptical hourglass form is artfully constructed from hundreds of premium, solid-core vertical bamboo and rattan poles. The bundled reeds dynamically flare outward toward the top and bottom, dramatically cinched at the waist by a thick, hand-woven braided rattan band. The top surface showcases a packed mosaic cross-section of sliced bamboo rounds, fitted with original white leveling bumpers supporting a large, protective oval glass top.Retains its beautiful original warm amber patina.
Bears original manufacturer's plaque: "McGuire, San Francisco." Good vintage condition. Structurally sound and sturdy. Warm aged patina consistent with age and use, with minor cosmetic scuffs. Light touch ups are noticed. Included beveled oval glass top is intact with only minor surface scratches consistent with careful use and no chips.
